ASTM A420 WPL6 grade elbows are associated with ASTM A420 for pipe fittings made from forged carbon steel.

ASTM A420 / A420M-07 Standard Specification for Forged Carbon Steel and Alloy Steel Pipe Fittings for Low Temperature Use. WPL6 is a normalized carbon steel that has been Charpy impact tested at -50 degrees Fahrenheit and can be used in low temperature environments. See also ASTM A333 Grade 1 and 6 (for piping) and A350 LF2 flanges.

ASTM A420 WPL6 elbows that have been fully inspected for quality and performance metrics. T

hese products are widely recognized for their superior quality, corrosion resistance and high tensile strength as well as long service life.

Materials shall include forgings, bars, plates, seamless or fusion welded tubular products with added filler metal, and shall be produced by flat, alkaline oxygen or electric furnace processes. Forging or forming operations shall be performed by a combination of one or more of the following: hammering, pressing, piercing, extruding, forging, machining, bending, fusion welding or machining. All welding shall be done prior to austenitic heat treatment and shall be performed under normalized, normalized and tempered, annealed or quenched and tempered conditions. Steel specimens shall meet the required values for chemical composition, tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, wall thickness and Charpy V-notch impact values. All fusion-welded butt joints shall be subjected to radiographic examination, while this specification does not require hydrostatic testing of the joint. Parts manufactured to dimensional standards shall be allowed to be welded in place.

ASTM A420 WPL6 Chemical Composition (%)

General Notes.
All values are maximum values unless otherwise noted.

Notes.
(1) For every 0.01% C reduction to less than 0.30%, it is permissible to increase the manganese by 0.05% to more than 1.06%, with a maximum increase to 1.35%.
(2) The maximum Mn value for fittings made from forgings is 1.35%.
